Youth Poetry Contest

In honor of Juan Felipe Herrera, our current US Poet Laureate’s upcoming visit to Dallas May 12th at the Latino Cultural Center for our LITERACY IN MOTION event, Aberg Center for Literacy is sponsoring a youth poetry contest open to all students in Dallas. Please follow the contest rules closely to ensure the eligibility of your submission.

JUDGING: The first round of judging will be done by award winning poet and teacher, Joaquín Zihuatanejo

The final round of judging will be done by Joaquín Zihuatanejo and a team of staff and volunteers from the Aberg Center for Literacy.

Winners will be notified by May 1st.

SEMIFINALISTS - The 20 Semifinalists will have their poems published on small placards and placed for viewing in the foyer of the Latino Cultural Center the night of Juan Felipe Herrera’s reading.

FINALISTS - The top three Finalists will receive cash prizes in the following amounts:

1st Prize- $200
2nd Prize- $100
3rd Prize- $50

The first prizewinner will also have her/his poem published in 300 copies of the playbill for the evening performance by Juan Felipe Herrera, May 12, 2016.
