¡Pachanga! Aberg Center's 15th Anniversary Fiesta

On Friday, April 27th Aberg Center hosted ¡Pachanga! to celebrate 15 years of dedication to literacy in North Texas. Pachanga is a Spanish slang term for party, and this event was that and more. From rousing entertainment, to exhilarating games, to compelling company, this celebration really was the fiesta of the Spring!

We would like to thank our presenting sponsor: the Jim and Lynn Moroney Family Foundation. We also want to express our greatest appreciation to our generous donors and event attendees, raffle sponsors, those who purchased raffle tickets and participated in the silent auction, and of course volunteers and staff of both Aberg Center and the Hickory Street Annex for making this event spectacular.

Below are select photos from the event. For the entire photo album check out our Facebook page.

A Way with Words - Live @ the Majestic Theater

On March 23rd, 2015, Aberg Center for Literacy supporters, volunteers, and students, joined fans of Wayword Radio's hit independent radio show, A Way with Words for an intimate evening of linguistic fun at the historic Majestic Theater in downtown Dallas. Hosts of A Way with Words, Martha Barnette and Grant Barrett delved into the quirks of the English language, and shared insights into how their own upbringing sparked a life-long fascination with words.

KERA's host of Think, Kris Boyd joined Martha & Grant on stage for an illuminating interview, and NPR's game guru John Chaneski led audience members on Team Martha and Team Grant in a rousing, word-themed puzzle game.

One final highlight for the evening was when Aberg Center for Literacy's newest crop of U.S. Citizens joined the radio celebrities on stage for a standing ovation.
