Muffins with Mom

Just in time for Mother's Day, the children in our Early Childhood Program, and their moms, got together to celebrated the end of an eventful school year!

The event started, like each day does at Aberg Center, with a little parent and child together time over muffins and fruit. After that it was time to present the certificates. Each child was given their own personalized award such as "Gives the Best Hugs" or "Loves Cars".

And what Aberg Center event is complete without a book give-a-way. The kids rushed to the book table to find their next favorite book. There were enough free books to get everybody through the summer!

End of Semester Celebration & Holiday Party - 2015

On Thursday, December 17th, students, volunteers, family and friends of Aberg Center for Literacy gathered in the Great Hall at St. Matthew's Cathedral to celebrate their accomplishments this semester, and ring in the holiday season.

We had great food provided by our amazing students, sand Christmas carols led by Harold Knight on Piano, and played a few rounds of Holiday Bingo for a reach into Santa's bag of presents. We also had an awesome presentation from the Level IV English class comparing Christmas in Mexico with Christmas in America. Finally we topped off the morning with attendance certificates for our dedicated students.

Thank you for all who attended and for all who made the Fall semester a special one!

A Way with Words - Live @ the Majestic Theater

On March 23rd, 2015, Aberg Center for Literacy supporters, volunteers, and students, joined fans of Wayword Radio's hit independent radio show, A Way with Words for an intimate evening of linguistic fun at the historic Majestic Theater in downtown Dallas. Hosts of A Way with Words, Martha Barnette and Grant Barrett delved into the quirks of the English language, and shared insights into how their own upbringing sparked a life-long fascination with words.

KERA's host of Think, Kris Boyd joined Martha & Grant on stage for an illuminating interview, and NPR's game guru John Chaneski led audience members on Team Martha and Team Grant in a rousing, word-themed puzzle game.

One final highlight for the evening was when Aberg Center for Literacy's newest crop of U.S. Citizens joined the radio celebrities on stage for a standing ovation.
